Arizona Teacher’s Unions Failed to Overturn Universal School Reform

The following press release from our friends at the Center for Arizona Policy (CAP) Action and the Goldwater Institute explains the unsuccessful effort of anti-school choice groups to refer the Universal Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESA) law (HB 2853) to the next general election ballot. This article indicates we are currently waiting for an official announcement from the Arizona Secretary of State’s office regarding the outcome of the Save Our Schools (SOS) petition effort and if the Universal ESA law will take effect retroactive to June 30.
However, more recent news indicates they did not get the required signatures to overturn the ESA program that was passed by our legislature in 2011.  This is great news for all our students using the Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization (ACSTO) which many use for school choice scholarships and also provides a fabulous direction for our tax dollars to go to a very worthy cause.  Praise the Lord for stopping this effort to take away such a wonderful school choice program.

Children’s Rescue Mission

Many of us stumped during the primaries to try and get Shiry Sapir on the General Ballot for Superintendent of Schools.  She did not win over Tom Horne in the primary, but she has not stopped in her passion to save our children and her calling to be involved in educating our kids as we were focused on reading, writing and arithmetic.
Shiry has announced her appointment as the Chair of the Education Advocates Coalition by gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.

Election Registration Scam

As a warning to all, a number of our congregation have been approached over the last few weeks by people at election sites (during the primaries) or more recently at a couple different libraries.  These people are encouraging folks to re-register to vote, saying that the legislature passed a new law requiring updates to our registration (such as state or county of birth).  While there was efforts to change the rules in the last 60 days, the Republican National Committee of Arizona filed a lawsuit to prevent such changes so close to the General Election.  There is no reason to re-register to vote, and in fact IF you re-register too close to the election (after October 11th)….you may be unable to vote in the General Election because you will reset your registration date, thereby making you ineligible to vote.
Bottom line, we all should have already registered to vote, and there is NO new requirement that obligates you to re-register so close to an election.  Please DO NOT fill out this registration form and give it to these people as it could jeopardize your ability to vote in the General Election at this point in time.
